Attempting to resize a window containing a large list (i.e. a file list for a
big torrent in Transmission) causes X to crash and restart sending me first
back to a console login and then the GUI login a few seconds later.

This results in a loss of all unsaved data in the current session such as
unverified data in a torrent or other unsaved documents.

Switching to Metacity eliminates this issue.
