I had the same problem on Ubuntu 7.04 with the stock Xgl server.

This appears to be a duplicate of this bug:

Are you on Ubuntu 7.04?

Can you try either
- getting latest Xgl sources, compiling, and installing, OR
- getting the ubuntu feisty xgl source package, applying the Xgl patch
mentioned there, compiling, and installing the patched Xgl sources?

That fixed that bug for me. It should work for you too. Just make sure you are
running the new/patched Xgl server.
