Everything that is running faster then 100 FPS can't be used as benchmark. 
I've downloaded doom 3 demo and started it with full details in window mode 
(1152x864 16xAA). The results show only a small performance decrease compared 
to glxgears.

kwin/compiz
Doom 3: 45 FPS / 42 FPS  (=6% fps decrease)
glxgears: 11000 / 7500 FPS (=30% fps decrease)
