Hello my fellow community.
Below is the code of conduct. It seems to not have been touched for a
while, so I was wondering if the document was final. If it is, we
should post it on the wiki.
Regards,
Sam
Code of Conduct
Calm, respectful, understanding, intelligent, useful
1. Be respectful to others and of their opinions, *always*.
2. Try and understand other contributor's perspective. If you require more
detail or information about a particular item, it is *your* responsibility
to ask or research on your own.
3. Always believe everyone wants to do the best for the project.
4. Before posting anything or replying on ML/Forum take a moment before hitting
send to ask yourself the following:
a. Are you saying anything which might offend anyone either intentionally
or unintentionally (as a result of language barriers or otherwise)?
b. Is this post going to benefit the discussion or project?
c. Have these things been said or discussed already?
d. Are the statements I'm making informed, or are they based on my own
opinions and assumptions?
e. Is what you are posting a suggestion, solution or a problem? If it is
the third do not hit 'Send'; start a new topic asking if this problem
can be addressed instead.
5. Before making any suggestions, please ask yourself the following questions:
a. Is what I'm suggesting really going to benefit the project?
b. Is what I'm suggesting really the best solution for the project's needs?
c. Is there another viable alternative to what I'm suggesting?
d. Is what I'm suggesting feasible to establish and maintain?
e. If it is not currently feasible, what would be required to implement it?
6. Please stick to the topic at hand.
7. If you are experiencing a problem, please check the FAQ first to see is
a configuration problem, or a common problem that can be resolved easily.
----Discussion----
Feel free to add comments below or add/improve points above.
I removed "d. Could what you are saying be misinterpreted as criticism
or offensive,
whether due to language barriers or otherwise?" because I felt it
could be better stated in the same subpoint as (a). That said, I don't
think criticism should be disallowed. I think you meant to imply
bashing, which is wholly different (see Wikipedia's page on bashing).

Comment: I like the idea of a guide to good conduct and tried
reffering to it in the ML several times but it appeared to have little
effect. How can this code be "adopted" (ie given sufficient weight
that it influences people)? If this code is to be used, should it not
at least be displayed prominently, eg Wiki, Forum, IRC topic, ML
Subscription? - Thanks, d_garbage
