Hi,
I'm new to the forums team, so I'd like to introduce myself.
I'm a 26 year old student (I'm studying philosophy and mathematics
intending to become a teacher) from Cologne, Germany and I'm married
with two children.
I'm using Linux for a little more than year now and my first
distribution was Ubuntu Dapper Drake.
I like the whole concept of free software and I was attracted mostly by
Ubuntu because of it's community.
I wasn't really eager to try Compiz at first, because I wanted to
explore my new system first (I wasn't really into computers before - I
guess that was kind of helpful, because the switch wasn't as painful to
me as it seems to others).
When Edgy came out, I thought I was experienced enough to try Compiz but
switched to Beryl pretty soon (again, mostly because of the community).
I learned a lot about window managers and X. In general, I can say Beryl
and Compiz made me understand Linux and free software a way lot better
and I learned to help people out, that weren't so much into it.
Then I became a moderator on the Beryl forums at one time (in fact I
still am - I didn't know that myself but I received a PM only three days
ago from a guy who asked me why he couldn't post anymore. No kidding).
Right now I'm doing a lot of support in the german as well as
international Ubuntu community for Compiz - and here in the
compiz-fusion forum, of course.
I'm glad to be a part of the team now.
As for engagement besides support: I would like to learn how to make
packages soon and help building a stable Ubuntu repository for Compiz
Fusion. I don't know if there are plans for that at all, since Gutsy
will have CF installed by default but they won't update their packages
for 6 months now - and "we" will. So that's kind of my plan for the
future. :-)
