That's almost what Ubuntu (Feitsty)'s live CD does, but with an 
important difference. Ubuntu's live CD doesn't ask you to restart X, it 
asks you to reboot. ;) The drivers you just installed are forgotten from 
memory along with your reboot, of course.

It's possible to restart X instead of rebooting to make it work, but I 
agree that it wouldn't be obvious to the average Windows user (for whom 
"restarting the windowing system" and "rebooting" mean the same thing).
