Hey Everyone,
We've made a lot of progress in the last few weeks both as a project and as a
community. It's very encouraging to see compromise and cooperation.
One challenge a project this large and diverse will always have, is
maintaining good communication. So I think now would be a good time for each
of us to take a few minutes to give the list an update on what we are working
on. Any info is helpful, but I think it would be nice to hear 1) What you've
accomplished or worked on the last month or so, 2) What you are working on
now, and 3) What you expect to work on in the next month or so.
What I've been working on:
As I'm not a Compiz/Fusion developer or IT professional, I generally work on
more general community oriented tasks. I spent a lot of time reading/posting
on the MLs and forums, much of it related to the name selection. I worked
with JP and Dreamhost to repair the compiz.org site after our surprise move
to a new server. I worked with iXce to setup the new mailing lists on
compiz-fusion.org. I built and configured a new server for Rock3d. With the
lists now on the Sophia server, my server will now strictly serve as a mirror
site and place to store remote backups.
What I'm working on now:
With things moving faster now I spend a lot of time just trying to keep up. I
am working with JP and Dreamhost to learn what additional capabilities we now
have and how to use them. While we are the only user currently on the new
server, it is still configured and managed by Dreamhost. The benefit of this
setup is that we don't have to use our resources to pay for, set up, and
maintain the server. The downside is that we do not have complete control or
the freedom to do as we like with it. I'll give a more detailed update on the
Web ML once I have more information.
What I plan to do next month:
I will setup the git repo mirror on compiz.org and create the appropriate
links to connect lists.compiz.org to the new MLs. I'll work with the Web team
to create any additional sites/links they need on the Dreamhost server. I'd
like to work a bit on the organization and decision making processes we have,
perhaps building on cyberorg's ideas.
Jeff
